His first personal exhibition in Los Angeles will open tonight. Until January 20, next year, Hammer Projects presents Kosovar artist Petrit Halilaj, a renowned name in contemporary contemporary art. He was presented at the Venice Biennale last year and tonight he will capture the space of the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. For this exhibition Petrit builds strange worlds from fantastic creatures and recycled relics, always ranging from his personal experience. Sticks, clay, and fabrics are elements that Petrit brought to this exhibition. The exhibition is a continuation of the obsession that Halilaj has with the animals: birds, dogs, butterfly. For Petrit, this inspiration represents transformation and concealment, wanting to elevate insects that are often bad in a better position in the world of animal kingdom. Halilaj is the winner of Special Gratitude at the Venice Biennale while winning the Mario Merz Prize. He was born in 1986 in Kostrcc, while living between Pristina and Berlin.
